League Overview

The GABL is a play-by-mail Strat-o-matic baseball league founded in 1988.  The following is an overview of the league.  The drafts and summer trips have created a bond between members that no PBM league can match.  For more information contact the GABL.

Full Player Retention – This allows managers to build a team over time, rather than drafting a new team every season. The 38-player rosters let managers hold on to prospects with limited playing time to see if they develop.

Full Season and Realistic Usage – The GABL plays a 162-game season from April to October. Players are limited to their actual usage, so "cheap" players can’t have a greater impact than they should.

No All-Star Teams – Rookies are drafted from a limited number of teams, so the talent pool in the GABL is similar to real life. Building a team is much more realistic and managers have to work harder to get the most out of their lineups. The true stars stand out like they should.

Strong Commitment to the Schedule – Teams play one home and one road series each week, and the league places a premium on playing promptly. There are several off weeks each season to make sure everyone keeps on pace.

Annual Draft Meeting – The GABL gets together every year to hold the draft, discuss league issues, and have a good time.

Completely Internet Based – All file transfers are handled over the Internet, and most communication is done through e-mail. This keeps costs down and is quick and easy. Phone calls also come in handy for keeping in touch.
